One
of Garden City Grammar School's first classes, way back in 1889
The teacher
appears to be indicated as Kittie Briel-Bodger. Writing on the back
says the photo is a gift of Mrs. O.L. Whitman who was also a teacher
at the time. "Garden City had many workmen's families at the
blacksmith's shop, farms, carpenter's shop, etc, at the time. Many
students were Polish, but a sampling of the students names includes
George and James Hickey, Charlie and John Streeter, Charlie Haase,
Conrad Wood, and Eddie Allen.
Even back in
1889, there was interest in forming an alumni association and keeping
graduates of Garden City Schools in touch with each other. Everyone
said, "Great idea!, we'll do it someday..." Before another
100 years slips by, get yourself "listed".
